Structural Analysis

Finite element evaluation of frames, casings and support arrangements under wind, seismic, transport and operating loads.

Testing & Verification

Dimensional and interface checks, pressure and leak tests of every circuit, fan and electrical function tests, and performance or acoustic verification where specified.

Engineering

Every Requirement Shapes The Design

Thermal duty is only the starting point. Installation, materials, airflow and sound are solved together.

Design software

Every Unit Is Sized With TECS's Own Thermal Design Software

Coil geometry, fin pitch, rows and passes, fan selection and sound level are solved together against the duty and the site ambient. The same tool draws the datasheet sketch and the general arrangement drawing, so the drawing you receive is the unit that was calculated.

01

Design Criteria

The design starts with the customer's expectations, the thermal duty, the fluid conditions and the operating environment. Site restrictions and project obligations are reviewed with the technical requirements.

02

Dimensions & Layout

Heat exchange area, overall dimensions and fan arrangement are selected for the heat load and the ambient. Transport limits, support points and maintenance access define the layout.

03

Materials & Protection

Tube and fin materials, fin coating, casing material and paint are chosen for the site atmosphere: dusty, marine, offshore and other demanding conditions.

04

Fans & Sound

Fan and motor selection follows the airflow, the pressure drop and the ambient temperature; the sound limit is evaluated at the same stage. Speed control, fan diffusers and silencers are offered where needed.

05

System Integration

Expansion tanks, level switches, control panels, oil and fuel coolers and plate heat exchangers are considered with the main exchanger for one coordinated system.

06

CFD & Structural Analysis

Where the installation requires it, CFD studies of airflow and recirculation and structural analysis of frames and supports verify the equipment under the project loads.

Design rules

The Limits Every TECS Design Is Checked Against

These checks are built into the TECS design software; a design that fails one of them is not offered.

Site Conditions

Design ambient temperature, altitude and humidity as given in the enquiry; fan performance corrected to the site air density, not taken from the catalogue at sea level.

Coolant

Water or ethylene / propylene glycol mixtures with the properties of the actual mixture. The coolant pressure drop is checked against the engine manufacturer's allowable figure, headers and nozzles against velocity limits.

Tube Velocity

The coolant velocity in every circuit is kept inside the band that gives high heat transfer and protects the tube wall from erosion.

Fin Pitch

Selected for the duty and the site: denser for clean sites, wider for dusty sites and for coils that must stay clean between services.

Fans

EC and AC axial fans, 50 or 60 Hz, induced or forced draught; the coil length per fan and the fan count follow the airflow, with a reserve on the fan performance.

Sound

Sound power from the fan manufacturer's measurements, sound pressure at the specified distances from an enveloping-surface calculation, with a safety margin against the limit.

Corrosion

Materials and coatings specified to the corrosion category of the site (C3 to C5-M): Cu/Al, AlMg2.5 fins, epoxy-coated fins, galvanised or painted casings, stainless-steel tanks.

Envelope And Weight

Overall length, width and height, dry and filled weight, coolant charge and expansion volume are calculated for every unit and stated on the datasheet and the drawing.
