Mitsubishi Power Says Gas Turbine Deliveries Now Run To 2031

Ask a turbine maker for a delivery date today and the answer is starting to sound like a different decade. On 27 October, at Singapore International Energy Week, the head of Mitsubishi Power Asia Pacific told reporters that the company is now talking about delivery around 2031. Slots for 2028 and 2029, he said, are close to fully booked.

The Order Forecast Behind The Date

He expects new gas turbine orders worldwide this year to reach 70 to 80 GW, a level he called well above what is normal. Most of that comes from North America. Interest is rising in Asia as well, with Southeast Asia described as the strongest opportunity and Malaysia and Singapore named as standouts. Gas demand, he said, will keep growing.

Briefs Finance links the demand to the build-out of data centers, together with heavier industrial activity and electrification. Gas to Power Journal, reporting the same remarks a day later, makes the same point about capacity: demand is running ahead of what the factories can build, and that shows in waiting times and in prices.

Capacity Is Being Added, But Slowly

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the parent of Mitsubishi Power, said in 2025 that it planned to double its production capacity within two years. The remarks in Singapore show that even a doubling has not closed the gap. The article names Mitsubishi, GE Vernova and Siemens Energy as the leading makers of large turbines, so the picture is not one company's problem. We reported earlier on a separate Mitsubishi order, a gas turbine plant expansion in Georgia (the Savannah project).

Why Engine Plants Hear This Too

A buyer who cannot get a turbine before 2031 will at least look at other machines, and engine makers are already reporting long order books of their own. For a planner the practical conclusion is to keep two technology options open for as long as the contract allows, and to check what each one needs from the site in cooling, fuel supply and space. A decision made late, under pressure of a missing delivery date, tends to be made with the least information. Our pages on gas turbines and power plants cover the equipment around either choice.
